About Frank J. Miles
Frank J. Miles, Founder of MilesTek
Before establishing MilesTek, Frank was engaged for 20 years in technical writing/editing and sales/marketing positions for various organizations in the military/aerospace, process control, electronics, communications and computer industries. He was an award-winning writer/editor of a large U.S. Air Force base newspaper, a recognized editor of various technical and management publications for the NASA Mission Control Center prime contractor, and a top-producing sales professional of computer-based measurement/control systems primarily for complex electrical power distribution and petrochemical industries. During this period at night school, Frank earned his bachelor degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
In 1981, Frank formed MilesTek as a manufacturer representative firm. Eight years later, he re-invented MilesTek into a niche supplier offering high-quality interconnect solutions. In addition to having an inventory of connectors and associated tooling, MilesTek began building custom cable assemblies to better serve its customers. Headed by Frank, the company designed its own product line of high-performance 75 ohm BNC connectors for the telecommunications central office and emerging digital video markets. Other notable connectors in the offering were custom 50 ohm BNC’s, and modular plugs and jacks. Manufactured to MilesTek’s specifications, this product line incorporated the best available materials and workmanship. Connectors had superior gold plating of electrical contacts, quality electrically-compatible insulating parts, and mechanical integrity. A full line of custom tools, tool kits and testers were also developed to successfully terminate these connectors.
In addition to serving the commercial market, MilesTek provided cable assemblies, bus couplers and connectors for military MIL-STD-1553B digital data bus applications. Unable to guarantee a quality source of bus couplers from various manufacturers, Frank led the design team to develop a new line of box-shaped transformer-coupled bus couplers. Since these products were so well received by customers, MilesTek is now the leading supplier of these products throughout the world.
In his endeavor to be an outstanding supplier, Frank instilled his knowledge of technical product applications and service attitudes with MilesTek sales people. Consequently, MilesTek’s application-oriented sales professionals are dedicated to working with customers to insure that they ordered the correct products.
The consistency of MilesTek’s integrity and quality remains the refreshing constant in a world of poor service and the pressure of low prices, which unfortunately some view erroneously as value.
